Seeing so many advertisements, are you also wondering if your child should join Coding Classes? You are not alone, many of the parents are overwhelmed by the intense advertisement on different platforms emphasizing that how important it is for every child to learn coding else the child will be left behind in the severe competition.
Should your child join Coding Classes? This blog is an attempt to present a holistic perspective on how to decide what your child should or should not do.
This blog is an attempt to present a holistic perspective on how to decide what your child should or should not do.
It’s a nice Sunday morning and Nisha is in the process of deciding what to cook for breakfast.
On checking with others at home it was decided that aaloo ke paranthe with chatni and dahi (potato stuffed bread with chatani and curd) will be the menu for the day.
Relieved that there was a unanimous decision, she entered the kitchen but came across a surprise. There were no potatoes in her kitchen, which was supposed to be the main ingredient for the preparation. Now what?
She knew that no one would like to venture out on this lovely Sunday morning to shop for potatoes and so had to reconsider the plan.
She ended up making theplas (a special gujarati bread made with vegetables and spices mixed in flour), with whatever vegetables and spices were at her disposal.
Does this sound like the story of every Indian home? Yes, it is.
But what is the relevance of this incidence with the topic of this blog? Any guesses?
Actually it is very much relevant. If only the parents can understand the lesson hidden here, they will gift a happy and fulfilling life to their wards.
Deciding What a Child Should Do or Not Do is Like cooking a dish;
You Must know What All Personality Traits are Available.
Usually both aloo parantha and thepala taste yummy and satisfying. One should aim for satisfaction and not for something driven by only external pressures and aspirations, which may be though to achieve with the available ingredients.
Actually, career planning for a child is just like preparing breakfast. Because both involve checking the available ingredients (or personality traits and strengths), setting a goal, and then the actual execution to achieve the goals.
However, a significant difference in this analogy is that the career of child is not something for which the goal can be set as easily as deciding the breakfast menu.
You may already know this that each child (rather each individual) is unique.
Unless we know what all inborn traits are hidden in the brain of a child, how can we decide that what activities will be best suited for the child?
Unless we know what all ingredients (inborn traits and intelligence) are hidden in the brain of a child, how can we decide that what will be the final cooked item from those ingredients?
And that is the sad part of the story of many of the students these days.
A very common mistake most of the parents commit is that they engage children in various activities just by following whatever presents as a trend, not realizing that what works for one child may not work that well for another.
what works for one child may not work that well for another!
Not only the extra curricular activities but this should also be followed in deciding the career of a child.
Parents decide the career of their child based on their whims and fancies, not understanding that if a wrong selection is made, they end up gifting a life full of suffering to their beloved child.
Though you might have seen many such cases around you, but in case not, you may remember the movie 3 idiots.
In their pursuit to give a flourishing career to their loving child, parents often play the role of their biggest enemy. How? They do that by not seeking an expert advice to set the career goals for the child.
Have you noticed few cases of wrong career selection around you? Or are you one of them?
Just sharing, I’ve been a case of wrong career selection.

Coming back to question that should a child learn to code? The answer is Yes and No.
Should a child learn to code? The answer is Yes and No.
The need is to take an informed decision which is based on some scientific assessments like personality profiling. The personality report of a child provides a vivid analysis of innate nature and intelligence types.
If everyone will become a coder then who will run the companies, manage accounts, perform audits, research in labs?
This is the reason why God has created so much variety in this world.
It is easy to be carried away in pressure of intensified advertisement, but before enrolling your child for coding classes (or any activity classes), one should get their personality profiling done.
One of the very useful tools to take an informed decision is DMIT Test (Dermatoglyphics Multiple Intelligence Test).

Then how to know that who should join the coding classes? The main factor that decides one’s ability to code is one’s Logical Mathematical Intelligence.
So, if in DMIT Report of child the Logical intelligence is reported to be high, then that child has higher chances of enjoying coding and making something worthwhile out of the endeavor.

High Logical Intelligence helps the Child to do better in Coding!

If a report shows the Logical intelligence as a higher number, then that further enhances the chances of the child to do wonderful in coding.
However, a personality is not just 1 type of intelligence, we need to know and plan for goals based on all the ingredients that the individual has. An expert counselor can help here to guide us for our selections.
To be a good coder one will also need to have a decent interpersonal intelligence as that gives one the ability to be able to understand the requirements for which the coding is to be done.

This selection should be based on the personality and intelligence assessment of the child.
Typically, a child with high logical intelligence should do better in coding than a child whose Logical intelligence is not very high.
A child with average or low Logical Intelligence may struggle and develop inferiority complex if asked to join coding classes.
